4 Adrenaline-Inducing Outdoor Family Adventures

By Sam McDade-Wray, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Publisher June 28, 2016

Summertime in Colorado is all about being outdoors when it is beautiful and warm. I love the snow too — but boy, do I love the summers! What better way to get out and enjoy the outdoors than taking in some local thrill attractions? Here is your quick guide to a few sky-high adrenaline-inducing outdoor adventures that you can enjoy with your spouse and kids!

Castle Rock Zip Line Tours

Just over a year old, the local Castle Rock Zip Line Tours offers three main attractions on several acres at the south end of Castle Rock. The Zip Line 1.5 mile course has 10 zip lines that max out at speeds over 50 miles per hour. The Epic Tower allows you to climb 42 feet or rappel on four different stations. After that, you can relax by taking the easy way down from the 70 foot eagle's nest via a flight line fall system. New to the tour is Epic Sky Trek, which is an aerial trekking attraction with four levels, 110 unique obstacles and adventure elements, spanning up to 50 feet to thrill the kids up to Cross Fit athletes.

Copper Zip Line and Adventure Park

One of our favorite summer family destination in the mountains, Copper Mountain offers the Alpine Rush zip line. This dual zip line allows zippers to ride side by side racing 300 feet over the village lake. It is a great introduction to zip lining for smaller kids (must be at least 45 pounds) and is only 30 feet at the top. While you are there, you can enjoy the other family-friendly activities like the quad power jump, bumper boats, paddle boats, climbing wall, miniature golf, go kart track, and digglers with the Summer Activity Pass.

Vail Adventure Ropes Courses

While in Vail for the Kids Adventure Games last summer, my family ventured to the top of Vail Mountain to hike and check out a few of the attractions at kid-friendly Adventure Ridge. There are three on-mountain courses for all ages. The Holy Cross and Gore Range Adventure Courses are the largest, tallest, and more challenging courses. For kids under 52 inches, the smaller course, Pine Cone Adventure, is also available. These attractions feature ropes, bridges, logs and balance elements all while taking in the very scenic Vail mountain ranges.

Vail Zip Lines

Also on top of the mountain is a small zip line called Gold Eagle. This 1,200-foot zip line follows the fall line from the top of Eagle's Nest towards the lovely town of Vail. New this year is the Game Creek Aerial Adventure which features seven zip lines and aerial bridges over nearly two miles of zip lining during the 3 to 4 hour tour.

There are so many active opportunities to create fun memories with your families. What are some of your favorites?
