It is peach season — and you are in for a treat this year! The Palisade peaches are probably the best that we have had in a while so you will not want to miss out. And this is coming from a Southern girl who knows her peaches.

For a limited time, you can enjoy these juicy sweet delights in a delicious seasonal MAD Greens salad, available ONLY in Colorado! The Alferd Packer features local products from Colorado farms. Named after a 19th century gold prospector who nearly died in a Colorado blizzard, it's a strange name for a really, really good salad. (Read the full story behind the name.)

As you may already know, MAD Greens is a Centennial, Colorado-based salad restaurant. For over ten years, they've specialized in making fresh, gourmet, made-to order salads, wraps, and soups, and grilled-to-order paninis. MAD Greens locally sources most of the ingredients in their food. Love that!

My Alferd Packer salad was packed with romaine lettuce and green beans from Petrocco Farms in Brighton. Layered on top of that was natural chicken, roasted Olathe corn from Ahlberg Farm in Delta, and goat feta from the Jumpin' Good Goat Dairy in Buena Vista. On top of it all was the fresh Palisade peaches from Clark Family Orchards. The salad with dressing came in at well under 500 calories, with 29 grams of protein, 22 grams of carbs, and 14 grams of fat.

Make a difference too! When you purchase the Alferd Packer, $1 from every salad sold benefits Denver Urban Gardens (DUG). The partnership entails the construction of a school garden near the company's headquarters in Golden, funding for DUG's Free Seed and Transplant program, support of DUG's annual Gather 'Round event, and providing onsite volunteer support at specific DUG events.

Follow MAD Greens Facebook page to keep up with the latest MAD Greens news — especially updates about the three new Colorado MAD Greens locations that will be opening in the next two months. (Hint: One of the new restaurants will be in the Park Meadows Shopping Center Food Court). And check out their blog with Chef Dan for wonderful recipes you can try at home.

Let's not forget the kiddos. MAD Greens has recently updated their Kids Menu. Inspired by the Bento boxes common in Japanese cuisine, kids are encouraged to choose their fruits and veggies for their own personal box. The Kids Super Box includes slow-roasted chicken, apples, cheddar cheese, homemade croutons, tomatoes, ranch dipping sauce, and a kid's drink too!
