By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Publisher May 7, 2014

The time is here and we are ready for summertime adventures!

Of course, you don't always know when adventure will strike. Being prepared for a sudden change of plans or a sudden change in the weather can make all the difference in a family outing! Here are our summer essentials for the car:

  • Sunscreen (regular and waterproof with SPF 30 or higher)
  • Extra diapers, pull-ups, and swim diapers if your child is in that stage
  • A hat, swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes for everyone
  • Water shoes or flip-flops
  • Beach toys like pails, shovels, rakes, sand shapers, and trucks
  • Swimming accessories like goggles or floaties
  • Baby powder (sprinkle it on after sandbox play and the sand will literally brush right off)
  • Books, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles (in case you're stuck waiting somewhere)
  • An umbrella or two
  • Hoodies or sweatshirts for you and your child
  • A washable tote bag for wet or sandy clothes
  • A bottle of water and/or a bottle of wound cleanser plus hand sanitizer
  • Bandages and antibiotic cream or spray
  • Tweezers and alcohol wipes to clean them
  • Insect repellent and anti-itch cream or spray
  • Instant cold compress
  • Individually packaged non-perishable snacks like crackers or dried fruit

Pack your essentials at the beginning of the summer, check and replenish the supply often, and you'll always be ready for summertime adventures!
