MACARONI RECIPE: HEALTHY HOMEMADE SPORTS DRINK

By Julie Dikken May 14, 2014
With spring and summer sports in full swing, busy moms are looking for healthy alternatives to keeping their kids hydrated. Here's a way to replace store-bought sports drinks with a homemade version.

HEALTHY SPORTS DRINK
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1/2 cup all-natural 100% juice (I used black cherry)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • Sweetener to taste (honey, stevia, or agave all work great)
Place crushed ice in a container with a lid (I used a mason jar). Add coconut water, juice, lemon juice, and sea salt. Place lid securely on jar and shake well. Add sweetener to taste. Serve cold. Makes about 4-5 servings.

This drink can be served "as is" or mixed with a 1/4 cup water, depending on your child's preference. Try experimenting with other flavors of fruit juices for a sure to please, made to replenish beverage!
