This is a great summer dessert to make while camping or for a summer evening right in your own backyard. Make them over a campfire, on the grill or in the oven. Any way you choose to make them, your family will love this warm, chocolaty treat!
Banana Boats
Banana Boats
- 1 whole banana per person, in the peel
- Chocolate chips or Hershey bar, broken into pieces
- Whipped topping for serving
- Tin foil
If using your oven, turn on the broiler. Move the racks right near the top. Slice each banana in its peel vertically right down the middle (leave a bit of the banana intact on each end). Separate the banana a bit and add chocolate chips (as many as you want) or Hershey bar pieces.
Wrap each banana in its own piece of foil and place banana upright in the oven or on the grill. My bananas fit snugly into the slats of the oven rack, keeping them perfectly in place.
Check your bananas after about 5 minutes. You may want to open the foil a bit to expose the chocolate and banana. Continue to broil (or grill) until the chocolate is melted and the banana is warmed through. The peel will turn very dark.
Remove it from the heat, top with whipped topping, and eat straight from the peel!
