Craft Corner: Easy Jack-o'-Lantern

🎃 Cool Craft for Halloween

By Natalia Berry, Publisher of Macaroni Kid for Reno October 12, 2011

You've probably started to notice all the Halloween and Fall decorations on display at the grocery store and gas stations and... well, pretty much everywhere so it's time to start decorating.

If you're anything like us, you may be wondering how to decorate on a budget so we've started digging out all the old containers and old craft supplies that I tend to put away and forget about until they're needed. This is what we came up with this week so have fun and we hope you have as much fun as we did!

What You Need:

  • Cleaned milk or water jug
  • Glue (white or clear school glue, not glue sticks)
  • Orange and yellow tissue paper
  • Black construction paper cut into eyes, nose and mouth shapes for the jack-o-lantern
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Battery-operated LED tea light

What You Do:

  1. Be sure the jug is cleaned and dry before beginning. Have the adult cut a hole about 3"x3" or so in the bottom of the jug.
  2. Give each person a paintbrush and cover the jug in glue (best to do it in sections) and then cover glue with orange and yellow tissue papers. Layers can look super awesome! Cover entire jug.
  3. Use your finger to glue down any raised corners or edges then add the jack-o-lantern's face.
  4. Let dry completely.
  5. Place tea-light in jug.
  6. ENJOY!
