Macaroni Kid Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock is proud to continue our Colorado Children's Author series with a review of Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? written by Carmela LaVigna Coyle.
At my wedding reception, two of my 4-year-old cousins followed me like shadows. They didn't even really understand who I was in relation to their lives, but wanted to be near to the person they kept referring to as "The Princess Lady." Indeed, many little girls dream of becoming a princess one day.
Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? is a delightful story for young readers about an energetic little girl who spends her days riding tricycles, climbing trees, making messes, and wondering if princesses are anything like her. Throughout the story, the mother reassures this little girl and reminds her to look inside herself to see what princesses are like. The best part of this story is the framed mirror on the last page, so little girls can even see what real princesses look like.
The book is most suited for preschoolers, in my opinion. I think it has an important message for all little girls. The book is sweetly written with simple rhymes in a question-and-answer style. The illustrations do a wonderful job of capturing the little girl's activities and moods. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to share it with my nieces when they come to visit.
We received two copies of the book: one for us to review and one to donate to a Douglas County school or preschool! Leave a comment at the end of this article telling us which school (name and city, please) you want to receive the book. We'll use random.org to choose the school. The more comments for that school, the better its chances to win! The only rule is that the school must be located within Douglas County.
