This is an easy recipe that was a hit with the whole family!  This bread is great served warm with butter, toasted or even made into french toast!

Irish Soda Bread with a Twist

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup Sun-Maid Fruit Bits
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon butter, melted

Preheat oven to 375โ„‰.

In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Pour in melted butter, buttermilk, and egg; stir together.

Fold in Fruit Bits and caraway seeds. Place dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly.

Form dough into a ball and place on either a greased or a parchment-lined cookie sheet. With a sharp knife, cut an X into the top of the loaf. Brush loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 40–50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

Let bread cool and ENJOY!
