Craft Corner: Cinnamon Ornaments

🎄 Cool Craft for Christmas

By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock Publisher December 12, 2012

Cinnamon is one of the most nostalgic scents I know, taking me back to days of baking with my grandmother and my Aunt Evvie. This craft is so simple and will make your whole house smell good enough to eat!

What You Need:

  • ¾ cup applesauce
  • 1 cup cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons white glue (like Elmer's)
  • Cookie cutters
  • Rolling pin
  • Wax and/or parchment paper
  • Bamboo skewers (or straws or toothpicks)
  • Ribbon or string

What You Do:

  1. Mix together applesauce, cinnamon, and glue until it forms a dough that can be rolled. If it's too thin, add more cinnamon. If it's too thick, add more applesauce.
  2. Spread out some wax paper and sprinkle it with cinnamon to help prevent sticking. Roll out the dough.
  3. Use cookie cutters to cut into shapes. Remove excess dough from around cut shape and use a spatula to move the ornaments onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Gather up the excess dough and roll again to make more shapes. (If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, it is easier to just flatten it with your hands.)
  5. Use the flat end of a bamboo skewer to poke a hole through the top of each ornament. Use the pointy end to smooth out the edges of your shapes if need be.
  6. Let dry on the cookie sheet for 2-5 days.
  7. Run a ribbon through the hole and hang.
