Craft Corner: Mother's Day Flower of Love

🌷 Great Gift Idea for Mother's Day, Grandparent's Day, or Any Special Occasion

By Maggie Mackay May 8, 2014

This special flower will last all year and will surely make Mom (or Grandma or Auntie) feel especially loved whenever she sees it!

What You Need:

  • 12 sheets of foam in a variety of colors, including green for the stem & leaves
  • Puffy paint, a thin Sharpie, or markers made for foam (regular markers will run)
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Pencil
  • Photo of your kiddos (with the recipient if possible)
  • Scissors
  • Wooden paint stirrer

What You Do:

  1. Choose two sheets of foam for the center of your flower; cut a BIG circle out of each sheet (I actually traced a bowl, so my circles would match up).
  2. Cut a small circle in the middle of one of the foam sheets to “frame” your photo.
  3. Glue your photo to the back circle, place the “frame” circle on top.  Glue the circles together with your photo visible in the middle.
  4. Pick out 8 pieces of foam for the “petals."
  5. Help your child trace his/her hand on each piece of foam.
  6. Cut out each little hand.
  7. Talk with your kids about the recipient of your flower and look at photo albums too to help them come up with reasons why they love that person. You'll need one reason or memory for each hand.
  8. Write the reasons on the hands.
  9. Help your child/children glue each “petal” to the center of the flower.
  10. Use the green foam to create a stem and leaves for your flower; glue them to the flower.
  11. On the stem, write “We love (fill in recipient's name) because…”
  12. Use the hot glue gun to attach the paint stirrer to the back. Now your child, can hold the flower by the stem and present it to the recipient!
