Recipe Box: Homemade Pizza Sauce

By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock Publisher August 14, 2013

I first began making my own Homemade Seasonings and Marinades, like onion soup mix, taco seasoning, and steak marinade a few years ago. It not only saves me money, but I can control the ingredients.

I am slowly expanding my recipe list. This week I made my own pizza sauce! This recipe made enough sauce for two pizzas so we used half and froze the other half. The best part is that it doesn't even have to cook!

No-Cook Homemade Pizza Sauce

  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • ⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon salt (optional)

Stir together the tomato paste, water, and olive oil till well blended. Add garlic and spices; stir well. Let stand for 2-3 hours till the spices marry. Makes enough sauce for two pizzas.
