A Snowy Spring Break ~ Keystone Resort is Family-Focused Fun

Kidtopia, mountaintop fondue, world-class skiing, and more make for a great family staycation!

Since skiing is a family activity for many, most resorts are family-friendly. Keystone Resort, however, is truly family-focused, whether you are a skiing family or not. More than four feet of snow fell in February, and now through March 2, spring lodging is up to 40% off, with rates starting at just $116 a night. Stay two or more nights and kids 12 and under ski and ride for FREE! No blackout dates; no strings attached! Book today for the best rates of the season!

My family recently spent a weekend at the resort for a little skiing, a little snowshoeing, a little night swimming in the outdoor heated pool, and a lot of fun! We had a blast and created some amazing family memories together. Truth be told, Keystone Resort is one of our very favorite mountain getaways year round. So what sets it apart and makes it a great place for families?

Keystone Kidtopia
Kidtopia Headquarters is across from Condominium Registration at Expedition Station. There are activities for kids every day of the week! Visit the website for a complete list of events and activities, but here are a few highlights:

  • Kidtopia Headquarters is a free, indoor playspace with toys and games, a coloring corner, and more. Ready, Paint, Fire is a ceramics and canvas painting studio that shares space with Kidtopia Headquarters (prices for projects range from $5-$50).
  • Free cookies are served every day at 4:00 PM at Dercum Square Ice Rink. We enjoyed snickerdoodles and chocolate chip ... nom nom!
  • Ripperoo's Parade through the Village and nighttime fireworks. Because every Saturday should end with a major celebration!
  • The Kidtopia Signature Event Series is truly something special. We visited during the Culinary Festival and we were so impressed by the variety of fun themed events (and delicious food too)! The Kidtopia Music Experience (March 2-10) is a week-long event with daily music-themed activities and culminating in an Snow Pants Dance Party and outdoor concert featuring Koo Koo Kanga Roo and 6 Million Dollar Band.
  • The Ultimate Snow Fort at the top of Dercum Mountain with climbing areas, tunnels, and slides will blow you away! It is a free play area, but you will need a lift ticket, foot passenger ticket, or ski pass to ride up to the snow fort. It's as popular with adults as it is with kids!

World-Class Skiing and Top Instructors
Keystone Resort has over 3,000 acres of ski terrain on three peaks. offers a wide variety of lodging to meet your needs, no matter the size of your group. If your mini macaronis haven't hit the slopes before, lessons at the Ski and Ride School begin for kids as young as 3 years old! The classes are very age appropriate, and even include some playtime at the Ultimate Snow Fort.

If you are already a skiing family, consider a Private Family Lesson. Our Macaroni Kid publisher for Evergreen-Conifer-Bailey just took one with her family and she says it's the best decisions she's made all winter. Read her review to find out more.

Keystone Nordic Center
What do you do with a golf course during a Colorado winter? Transform it into a snowy activity center with miles of groomed trails perfect for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing! Snowshoeing is my favorite winter sport! I get to enjoy the beauty of winter without having to ride a scary chairlift or worry about crashing into someone else. And you don't have to be super athletic. If you can walk, you can snowshoe!

The 2.5 mile snowshoe trail took me and my bestie a little more than an hour to complete, and that included lots of stops for pictures. With varied and hilly terrain, it was a great workout (we were definitely feeling it the next day!) with breathtaking views at every turn. Our final reward at the end? All-we-could-eat soup and homemade bread in the Soup Bistro (open daily 11:30 AM–2:00 PM)!

Keystone Nordic Center offers equipment rentals, cross country lessons, and guided snowshoe tours. Or you can simply purchase trail access for the day and go at your own pace like we did.

Exceeding Expectations
Keystone Resort really delivers on their promise to be family-focused. They offer front-row parking for families (on a first-come, first-served basis) and have red wagons in every Village that you can use free of charge to haul kids and gear. There are several heated outdoor pools and hot tubs (so much fun to swim outside while it's snowing). Awesome photo spots are located throughout the Resort.

My family was provided one night of lodging, lessons, rentals, and meals for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was given. The opinions are 100% my own.
