Craft Corner: Show Your Patriotism with an American Flag T-Shirt

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Cool Craft for Flag Day, Independence Day, or Any Patriotic Holiday

By Meg Jollett, Macaroni Kid Oviedo-Geneva-Winter Springs Publisher July 2, 2014

A friend saw this idea on Pinterest so we had a little crafting party for my little one and his friends to make these cute shirts! He'll be wearing it on Independence Day and I'm also planning for him to wear it again on Labor Day!

What You Need:

  • Plain white t-shirt or tank top
  • Blue and red fabric paints
  • Sponge tipped paintbrush
  • Cardboard (to fit inside t-shirt)
  • Masking or painter's tape (optional)

What You Do:

1.) Place the cardboard inside the t-shirt so that the paint doesn't glue the insides of the shirt together or bleed through.

2.) Paint your child's hand blue and place it where you would normally have the stars on the flag. Let dry.

3.) Using the sponge-tipped paintbrush, paint your red lines (as many as will fit... but it probably won't be 13!).

TIP: If you aren't good at painting straight lines, put masking or painter's tape on the shirt and then just paint between the lines. Leave the tape in place until the paint dries.

4.) Let dry overnight.

5.) Wear with patriotic pride!
