Tater tots. Bacon crumbles. Melted cheese. Is it any wonder that my family LOVES this simple recipe? It can be made in the oven or slow cooker, whichever works better for you!

Tater Tot Casserole

  • 1 bag (32-oz) frozen tater tots
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1" pieces
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon crumbles
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (any variety)
  • 3/4 cup milk (1 cup if baking in the oven)

Spray your slow cooker or a large glass baking dish (if you're cooking in the oven) with cooking spray.

Layer half the tater tots across the bottom of your dish. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the bacon and 1/3 of the cheese. Add half the cubed chicken evenly across the top; season with poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper.

Make another layer, using 1/3 of the bacon and cheese followed by the rest of the chicken.

Layer the remaining tater tots across the top, then sprinkle with the remaining bacon and cheese.

Pour milk over the casserole. Cook in your slow cooker on LOW for 4-6 hours or in your oven on 350℉ for 45 minutes to an hour, until milk is absorbed and chicken is cooked through.

Note: The tater tots are definitely crispier when baked in the oven, but my family loves it either way.
