Happy Purim from Macaroni Kid!
The festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar. For 2022, it begins at sundown on Wednesday, March 16, and lasts till sundown on Thursday, March 17.
According to the Book of Esther, Mordecai and Queen Esther foiled Haman's plans to kill the Jews. Purim celebrates this event with feasting and rejoicing.
There are four observances of Purim:
- Hear the Megillah, the complete story of how Mordecai and Queen Esther saved the Jewish people from the hands of the wicked Haman. The story is read twice, once at night and a second time on Purim Day.
- Give gifts of food to friends. The gifts should include at least two different types of food, such as Hamentashen and juice. Kids love this holiday because they get to dress up in their favorite costumes to deliver the gifts.
- GiveTzedekah (money or charity) to two or more poor people, or put two or more coins into the donation box of a favorite charity.
- Eat and rejoice! Partake in a big meal, called the Purim Seudah, with family and friends, sing songs, tell the story of Purim, and celebrate!

Purim in Outer Space (All Ages) on March 17 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Enjoy out-of-this-world fun for the entire family and celebrate Purim in outer space! There will be a live musical performance by Merkava Band, cosmic cuisine including ha-moon-tashen, games, crafts, and more. Prizes for all children in costume!
