TEENS: GIVE BACK TO OUR LIBRARIES & GET YOUR DIPLOMA

April 5, 2016

The school year is quickly coming to a close, and you know what that means: It's time to complete those community service requirements. Did you know that Douglas County Libraries (DCL) Teen Volunteer programs count toward the Douglas County School District’s community service requirements for graduation? Now you do!

DCL offers several volunteer opportunities, including Reading Buddies, Teen Library Council (TLC), general library tasks, and event and program assistance.

  • Reading Buddies: Help struggling readers who are entering first through third grades at a Douglas County elementary school. DCL staff will train you to encourage your Little Buddy through reading together, phonics and word games.
  • TLC: You can help plan teen programs at the libraries and recommend materials with the guidance of a youth librarian.
  • General Library Tasks: These tasks can include providing administrative and clerical help; shelving books, CDs and DVDs; helping in the children’s department; and assisting with story time and crafts.
  • Event and Program Assistance: Set up chairs and/or decorate for special events and programs, help staff and presenters, and assist with cleanup.

If you still need more hours to complete your requirements, don't wait! The sooner you get going, the better. Visit the Teens page at DouglasCountyLibraries.org and click "Volunteer" to learn more.
