Fun & Games: King-Sized Outdoor Tic-Tac-Toss Game

By Anna Hall June 7, 2016

I am always looking for fun outdoor games and activities for the kids. When I saw this tic-tac-toss game in a magazine, I quickly made one for my daughter's birthday party. It was easy and inexpensive to make and has turned out to be a big hit with the kids for our outdoor parties or anytime kids come over to play!

What You Need:

  • Shower curtain liner, square tablecloth, or drop cloth
  • Duct tape
  • 8 or 10 flying disks, bean bags, dive rings, or heavy-duty plastic plates (at least four of each in two different colors)
  • Yardstick or measuring tape
  • Marker

What You Do:

  1. Using the yardstick or measuring tape, divide the liner/cloth into thirds and make a small mark accordingly.
  2. Adhere strips of duct tape to create a grid on the liner/cloth for the game board.
  3. Use tape to mark Xs and Os on the flying disks, or simply use sets of differently colored ones to differentiate the players.
  4. Lay out the game board in the yard, using rocks to hold it down on a windy day, and enjoy a king-sized game of tic-tac-toe.

Rules:

  • Mark a throw line to stand behind.
  • Players take turns tossing the disks onto the game board.
  • If the disk lands off the board, in a taken square, or on the line, pick it up. Decide whether the player will be allowed to throw it again (recommended for younger kids) or if play passes to the next player (recommended for older kids). If most of the disk is in a square, you may allow for it to be moved to the center of that square.
  • First player to mark three in a row is the winner!
