FREE Admission to History Colorado and State Parks for Colorado Day

Colorado is celebrating its 146th birthday this year!

On August 1, 1876, Ulysses S. Grant signed the proclamation that made Colorado the 38th state. "Colorado Day" is a time to celebrate what makes Colorado a unique and invaluable part of the United States.

FREE Admission to History Colorado Center

In honor of Colorado's 146th birthday, you can enjoy FREE admission to History Colorado Center on Monday, August 1. Enjoy a historic day of entertainment through four floors of interactive exhibits, arts and crafts, live music, popcorn, alpacas, and miniature horses. Bring your friends and family because it's time to party!

FREE Admission to Colorado State Parks

Each year, Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) offers free admission at all Colorado State Parks on the first Monday of August. Park entrance is free, but activities like fishing and camping still require a valid license and permit. Visit for more details.

FREE Festivities throughout Capitol Hill

Learn more about our great state with an interactive scavenger hunt through Capitol Hill, courtesy of Historic Denver. The scavenger hunt will lead you to the Molly Brown House Museum, the Governor's Residence, and the Colorado Capitol Building. All three sites will have special festivities for the day.

  • Experience "Colorado's Home" on Colorado Day! Take a free historical tour through the Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion and have lunch in the gardens with food from local food trucks!
  • The Molly Brown House will offer free access to the lower-level exhibit space. Paid guided and self-guided tours of the entire home will also be available; reservations are strongly encouraged.
  • Take a free guided tour of the Colorado State Capitol, including a trip to the dome where you can get a 360˚ view of Denver, from 9:30 AM-3:00 PM on Colorado Day. Additional festivities include live presentations, historical costumes, local authors, giveaways, and the first annual Colorado Bake-o-poloosa! It will also be the opening day of a new Creative Capitol art show, showcasing our state's towns, villages, cities, buildings, and landscapes.
