Keystone: Snow Tubing, Kidtopia, Mountain Biking, & More Summer Fun!

Colorado Staycation Idea

By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Publisher June 26, 2019

Take a few days off work and enjoy a staycation in the mountains. Keystone Resort is open for the summer season with a variety of activities for the whole family!

Summer Snow Tubing: Yes – Summer. Snow. Tubing.

Even after the close of the ski and snowboard season at Keystone, guests can still get their adrenaline fix this summer at the Adventure Point Tubing Hill, where a not-so-secret stash of snow awaits. Situated at 11,640-feet elevation atop Dercum Mountain, Keystone boasts the only summer snow tubing operation in Colorado held on actual snow.

Tubing is one of my favorite winter activities! Summer snow tubing is just as much fun, maybe even more so, because you can do it wearing shorts and a t-shirt. We never got cold at all... in fact, we took off our hoodies and put them back in the shelter.

Even with only two runs open, we never had to wait long for our turn. The staff was courteous and fun. A photographer captured some great pictures for us to view after our time ended, with an option to buy. Summer tubing will last as long as the snow does; with Keystone’s exceptional winter season, you can likely enjoy this activity well into July.

PRO TIP: Wear snow boots (great look with shorts!) or bring a change of socks and shoes. The snow between the end of the run and the beginning of the Magic Carpet back to the top gets pretty slushy around midday and our feet got pretty wet. Dress in layers and definitely bring sunscreen (that goes for winter tubing as well)!

Kidtopia – Where Kids Rule Keystone

Keystone’s signature daily Kidtopia programming provides families with a variety of activities and adventures that are free throughout the entire summer. Through August 31, Kidtopia offerings such as nature hikes, kite-building workshops, science outings, and kids' yoga allow families to enjoy creative experiences that provide added ways to enjoy the resort.

Scenic Lift Ride = Scenic Views

Guests can elevate any Keystone visit with a scenic lift ride to the top of Keystone Mountain, where incredible views extend as far as the eye can see, including the Continental Divide, Ten-mile Range, and Lake Dillon. Photo opportunities, hiking, and delicious fare at the Overlook Grill at Summit House await.

The Thrill of Downhill
Keystone Bike Park features 34 lift-serviced singletrack mountain biking trails, with progressive terrain suitable for riders of all ability levels. Group ride options range from free downhill events to weekly group rides dedicated to women. Plus, the Keystone Bike Academy caters to riders of all levels offering beginner clinics, private lessons and downhill guides.

With lingering snow, trails will open on a rolling basis throughout June, as conditions permit. Bike and full downhill gear rentals are conveniently available at Keystone Sports locations in the resort’s River Run Village.

Lakeside Village: Activities On and Around Keystone Lake

Stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, lakeside bicycle rides... all modes of transportation at Keystone Lake present a picturesque mountain setting. Located in Lakeside Village, the Keystone Adventure Center provides boat and bike rentals, arcade games, beach toys, snacks, and a bar.
