Recognizing colors is one of the first lessons we teach our young children. Matching those colors takes the lesson one step further. And by incorporating fine motor skills into the equation, you've got a great activity for toddlers! Plus, this DIY Color Matching Box makes for an easy, hands-on lesson for long road trips.

What You Need:

  • Empty tissue box
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Paper (to match the colors of the pipe cleaners)
  • Scissors and/or sharp pointed tool
  • Glue

What You Do:

  1. Glue a variety of shapes and colors to the outside of an empty tissue box. *If you cut two of each color and put one on each side of the box, you will get a cool spiderweb effect (as shown in the photo above).
  2. Use scissors or a sharp pointed tool to make holes through the colored paper.

To store your Color Matching Box, simply bend the pipe cleaners to fit inside.
