International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

There is a lot going on in the world today with empowering women and girls to speak out. As moms, we have to know how to help our daughters master this important skill. Here are some things you can do to make your daughter a stronger, more confident girl:

1.) Allow your daughter to see and hear you speaking about things you are passionate about in your life. Ask your daughter what she is passionate about and what she would like to accomplish now and in the future. Discuss goals and steps to get there. Help her to achieve her dreams.

2.) Teach your daughter the correct way to have conversations when you don’t agree with someone.

3.) Give her choices.

4.) Talk about women in your community whom you respect and admire. Tell your daughter why these women are amazing! Encourage your daughter to read about remarkable women.

5.) Be confident about yourself. Do not talk down about your weight, job, status, etc. Talk about what you are doing to achieve your goals. You are her best role model!

6.) Take your daughter places where she will meet many types of people. Encourage conversations and interactions with many people.

7.) Listen to songs that lift women up ... not put them down. Talk about these songs in the car.

8.) Most of all, remind your daughter the only thing she has to do in life is to BE HERSELF! When she does something different or makes an unusual choice, praise her for being unique!

Coco Chanel said, β€œA girl has to be two things: Who and what she wants.” These are GREAT words to model with your daughter! Be her greatest teacher and her biggest fan!
