The primary coding language taught in their classes is called Scratch. Scratch is a programming language developed by MIT which allows kids to code their own video games, digital art, and animations.

Scratch has a user-friendly and intuitive design, which allows students to write scripts by simply connecting digital blocks together. Kids can start learning to code using Scratch as early as first grade.

Sloane Weston, the founder of Colorado Code Club, says "Scratch inspires creativity and develops critical thinking and logic skills while also giving kids the ability to express themselves through creating their own games and projects. It’s a fantastic introduction to coding since it is less intimidating and fun but still teaches the same concepts professional programmers use every day."

Why Should Kids Learn to Code?
Some educators and experts are calling coding the "new literacy" — a subject so important that every child needs to know the basics to excel in our rapidly changing world.

Learning to code prepares kids for the world we live in today.

There are lots of jobs and occupations that use code directly but many careers that don’t work with code directly still prefer to hire people with strong computational skills. However, the reasons for learning to code run much deeper than career prep.

Learning to code teaches many important life skills.

Kids who code develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills. They learn why they shouldn’t fear mistakes or failure and that persistence pays off. It also inspires creativity and collaboration and is a great introduction to computer science.

Coding is fun and builds confidence!

Creating a game or animation can be really fun for kids and seeing their ideas come to life is very fulfilling and builds their confidence.
