Christmas Eve Surprise Box

🎄 Fun Idea for Christmas (or Any Special Holiday)

By Jamie Clark, Roanoke, VA Publisher December 17, 2018

When I was growing up, it was tradition to open just one gift the night before Christmas. I remember doing this as a young girl, and it is one of my favorite Christmas memories.

Now that I have a family of my own, my husband and I decided to pass this tradition along to our own kids. Every year on Christmas Eve, our kids get to open one present each. In the past, we've always given them brand-new pajamas (you know, so they look cute on Christmas morning!), but this year I think we are going to try something new. Welcome the Christmas Eve Surprise Box!

Since we have two boys, I decided to separate the contents into two boxes, though many items will be shared! And several items are from around the house, so those don't cost a thing.

Contents can vary, but here are a few suggestions for a fun night of movies, games, and holiday fun:

  • New pajamas
  • Special Christmas socks
  • Family movie to watch together on Christmas Eve
  • Popcorn
  • Hot cocoa
  • Christmas book to read before bedtime
  • New ornament for the tree
  • A family game to play (a new one or whatever your family favorite may be!)
  • Ingredients to make Reindeer Food to sprinkle on the lawn

The ideas are endless! Having a box of fun will help get the kids worn out so they'll be ready for a good night's sleep before Santa makes his appearance! (Or one can only hope!)
