Our Douglas County Libraries are a treasure trove of fun!

February 27, 2019

When you think about the library, you probably picture shelves and shelves of books. Our Douglas County Libraries are a gold mine of events and classes that will entertain your kids, expand their imaginations, and increase their knowledge! We've rounded up a few unique programs for your family:

Camp DCL
The library’s annual spring break and summer day camps give kids a fun chance to try new activities and express their creativity, with plenty of hands-on experiences to help build confidence.

Douglas County Libraries in Lone Tree, Castle Rock, and Parker will offer separate themed camps during the Douglas County School District Spring Break (March 18-22). The camps are designed for children ages 6-11 and cost $325 per camper for a full-day, week-long camp. Registration is now open.

If you already have plans for Spring Break, your kids can join the fun during half-day, week-long camps that are offered at several different Douglas County Libraries branches from June 3-August 2, 2019. Summer Camps are for ages 5-12. Registration begins March 1, 2019.

Bark for Books and Reading Buddies

Budding and struggling readers ages 6-12 can build confidence and self-esteem by reading to trained therapy dogs through the library’s Bark for Books program.

Reading Buddies pairs trained teen volunteers with struggling readers in grades 1-3. Together, the buddies read and play literacy-based games to build skills.

Jedi Academy
On the second Saturday of each month (except May 2019), DCL in Roxborough invites young Star Wars fans to experience Jedi lessons with a twist.

Think LEGO-building activities, light-saber construction, Star Wars games, and more. Costumes are encouraged!

Slick Science
In this monthly “lab,” kid scientists ages 6-12 can experiment with fun science topics that change every month.

Slick Science events take place on the first Tuesday of the month at Douglas County Libraries in Roxborough and at other branches at various times through the year.

Library Perks
DCL library cardholders have access to a variety of fun perks for free, like music-driven audio workouts through Aaptiv, the #1 audio-based fitness app on the Apple App Store. And DCL is the only library in the nation to offer Aaptiv!

Crafters and creative types also get free access to Creativebug, which offers more than 1,000 online DIY classes from great artists.

Local Attractions & Discounts
DCL partners with local cultural institutions through its Adventure Pass program to provide library cardholders with great experiences at some of the area’s best museums and attractions — for free! Cardholders can also take advantage of local merchant discounts on food and drink, shopping, and classes and other experiences through DCL Local.
