Pull on those swimsuits, dust off those bikes, and lace up your sneakers! It's nearly time for Castle Rock's annual Tri the Rock Youth Triathlon

Hundreds of kids swim, bike, and run at this fun and challenging event each year. The 2023 event is back at the newly renovated Butterfield Crossing Park and Pool, 3952 W. Butterfield Crossing Drive.

Youth athletes of all ability levels ages 5 to 18 are invited to participate.

Race Distances:

  • Ages 5-6: 25-meter swim (one pool length), 1-kilometer bike ride (one lap around Butterfield Park), and a 500-meter run

  • Ages 7-10: 50-meter swim (two pool lengths, down and back), 4-kilometer bike ride, and a 1-kilometer run

  • Ages 11-14: 100-meter swim (four pool lengths, down and back twice), 8-kilometer bike ride, and a 2-kilometer run

  • Ages 15-18: 100-meter swim (four pool lengths, down and back twice), 16-kilometer bike ride, and a 3-mile run

Bike racks open at 6:00 AM for ages 7-18, and the transition area closes at 7:15 AM to prepare for the first race. The races begin at 7:30 AM, with age groups starting in order from oldest to youngest. The race for ages 5-6 does not begin until 10:30 AM.

Registration is now open! The registration fee is $65 through Thursday, June 1, and then increases to $70 starting Friday, June 2. Registration includes a T-shirt, goody bag, and post-race meal. The registration deadline is Tuesday, September 5.


Free First-Timer Clinic

Is your child excited but nervous to try the event for the first time? Make sure they're prepared with a free first-timer clinic at Butterfield Crossing Park on Sunday, September 3. The clinic will be at 1:00 PM for ages 7-18 and 1:45 PM for ages 5-6.

The clinic is designed to ease the anxiety of kids and their parents. The class will include a review of the racecourse and additional information. To ensure individualized attention, space is limited to 25 participants per session. Registration is required by Friday, September 1.
