Love the Arts? Step into the Spotlight This Fall with PAA Classes!

August 7, 2019

The Performing Arts Academy (PAA) offers high-quality, community-based programs to help build confidence. Whether your child is interested in learning the basics of ballet or taking their tap skills to the next level, PAA offers theatre, acting, and voice classes for all abilities. Classes begin on August 19th, so don't miss your chance!

You can see PAA's students in action in NEW upcoming musicals: Disney's Frozen JR and Roald Dahl's Matilda! Registration is now open for fall classes and productions.

 Studio 1 (K - 2 Grade): Theatre in a Trunk
Students in this studio use creative discovery and imaginative play as they explore dramatic expression in the forms of dance, acting, and music. Theatrical skills are learned through age-appropriate stories and scripts, and the skills are applied in fun practice sessions.

NOTE: Students in 2nd Grade and above have the opportunity to participate in Disney's Frozen JR, a fully-staged and produced show in Studio 2. The older students act as mentors and guides for the younger students, providing opportunity for leadership and friendships between different ages.

 Studio 2 (2nd–6th Grade): Disney's Frozen JR
Participants learn and apply theatrical skills in the disciplines of dance, music, and text-based acting work, and are encouraged to explore how acting is inside all components of stage craft. More complex age-appropriate stories are explored, and scripts are introduced as a regular part of the classes.

Ideas of character and story choices, theatre vocabulary, and guidelines for proper practice in theatrical work, including in rehearsal and production processes, are presented in fun and drama-based ways. These ideas are then applied in mini practice sessions in classes, as well as in productions.

Disney’s Frozen JR Performances: November 1 & 2
PAA students can take a frozen adventure with sisters Anna and Elsa as they face danger, meet new friends, and discover the power of love. The performances will be just before the release of the new Disney film, Frozen II!

 Studio 3 (7-12 Grade): Roald Dahl's Matilda
The students in Studio 3 engage in studies of dance, music, and text-based acting work, using scripted and non-scripted practice to learn and apply theatrical skills. More complex age-appropriate theatrical material is used to keep their interest and engagement as they explore stories in dramatic fashion.

At this age, the artists often ask to be challenged, and we meet them where they are so they can express their individuality, as well as learn to be a part of a collaborative whole, while encouraging them to go further in their theatrical learning and application. Studio 3 participants have their very own fully-staged production in the Fall Studio.

Roald Dahl’s Matilda Performances: November 15 & 16
In this musical, students can stretch their imagination and skills as they discover the magical world of Matilda! She stands up to bullies, discovers new abilities, and proves that you should never judge a book by its cover.

Studio 4: Conservatory (Advanced | Grades Vary by Class)
This Studio holds advanced classes which have prerequisites and/or teacher placement requirements. Artists further deepen their skills and learn about additional applications to real-world theatrical experiences.

The idea of historical contextualization of the theatrical art form is added to the learning in classes and production, encouraging the students to reflect upon how what they are learning exists in a longer timeline of practices around the globe. Advanced Acting skills include:

  • Training the Actor’s Voice
  • Tap IV/Advanced Tap
  • Advanced Hip Hop

Behind the Scenes Studio (Grades Vary by Class)
For students who want to learn more about how to bring a production to life, PAA has hands-on "behind the scenes" classes allowing students to build props and practice theatrical makeup techniques.

  • Props: Theatrical Properties Design
  • Theatrical Makeup: Prosthetics

 Adult Studio (Age 18+)
Why should the kids have all the fun? Parents can get moving and have a great time in our adult classes! This fall parents can sign up for Zumba or Musical Theatre Movement and have fun while their kids are in rehearsal.
