Splash Into Summer Reading & Fun with Douglas County Libraries

July 1, 2020

Summer is in full swing, and so is summer reading at Douglas County Libraries (DCL). If you haven’t yet signed up for Splash Into Summer, now’s the time to dive in! The program is free and open to all ages. If you like reading, or a challenge, or supporting good causes — or all three — we’ve got you covered!

EASY SIGN-UP
Registering is easy at DCL.org/summer-reading. When you do, you’ll receive gift coupons and vouchers courtesy of Pirates Cove and Parry’s Pizza, while supplies last. Your Pirates Cove voucher can be used anytime next summer for the 2021 season!

SUPPORT A GOOD CAUSE — AND YOUR SCHOOL!
This year’s community goal of 8 million minutes read is within reach, but we need your help to get there. If we meet the goal by July 31, the DCL Foundation will donate $1,000 to the COVID-19 Recovery Fund through the Douglas County Community Foundation. Now that's a cause worth reading for!

Signing up for Splash Into Summer can also help your school earn $500. Be sure to include your school name and grade when you register. The school with the most sign-ups by July 31 will be awarded $500. Some rules and restrictions apply.

CHALLENGE & REWARDS
We suggest 1,000 minutes of reading as a worthy goal, but you can create your own challenge. Increase or decrease the number of minutes read or challenge yourself to read a certain number of books. Whatever your goal, we want you to read and have fun while doing it.

Completing the challenge entitles you to cool finishing prizes. Kids can pick out a new book to keep. Readers of all ages will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 finishing prizes:

  • For adults, the prize is a stand-up paddleboard;
  • for teens a 2021 season pass to Elitch Gardens;
  • and for kids a 2021 season pass to Pirates Cove.

Kids' finishing prizes may be picked up starting July 6, while supplies last, at the curbside Summer Reading tents at our Castle Rock, Castle Pines, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, or Roxborough locations.

Pick-up hours are Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM; Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00–6:00 PM; Saturday from 12:00–4:00 PM; and Sunday from 1:00–3:00 PM.

Finishing prize drawing winners will be announced August 3.
