Performing Arts Academy Offers Broadway Workshops for Grades 6-12

September 9, 2020

Join Performing Arts Academy (PAA) for an exclusive workshop series! Broadway weekends offers an immersive theatrical experience, connecting theater students directly to the artists at the heart of the Broadway industry. This three-part digital series will cover auditions, improv, and a dance choreography routine from Something Rotten.

“The teachers for these classes were exceptional. The students were so thrilled to get to work with more Broadway performers (especially during times like these), and the teachers themselves had real gifts in working with the students. The conversations they had at the end were almost as meaningful as the dancing itself, and the kids felt respected and cared about. They talked like old friends!” –PAA Parent

Workshop One: Auditions
Saturday, September 19 from 10:00–11:00 AM
Instructor: Hannah Shankman

Focus on how to best prepare for an audition. Learn tools and tips to confidently and professionally approach your auditions, including how to behave in the room, etiquette in and out of the audition room, how to deal with possible hiccups, how to prep sides for a specific audition or callback, and how to approach the callback as well!

Workshop Two: Improv!
Saturday, October 17 from 10:00–11:00 AM
Instructor: Ellyn Marsh

In a nutshell, improv is unscripted entertainment. In this class, students will play games and invent scenes or entire stories that are made up on the spot. The results can be funny, dramatic, weird, and almost always entertaining. But the amazing thing about improv is — NOTHING IS EVER WRONG! All you need is a good attitude and the ability to not take yourself too seriously.

Workshop Three: Something Rotten Dance Routine
Saturday, November 14 from 10:00–11:00 AM
Instructor: Nick Burroughs

Learn a dance routine inspired by the hit Broadway show, followed by Q&A with Nick Burroughs.

“It’s really interesting getting to hear information from somebody who’s actually gotten to work on Broadway” –PAA Student
