Douglas County Parks Series: Civic Green Park

By Kari Ploysa, Macaroni KID Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Administrative & Marketing Assistant June 22, 2021

Civic Green Park
9370 Ridgeline Blvd., Highlands Ranch
Hours: 5:00 AM-11:00 PM

Civic Center Park is near Town Center, next door to the Douglas County Library in Highlands Ranch. There is ample parking with spaces in the RTD lot, Town Center Parking garage, and the street next to the park.

It is a gorgeous park. On the west end is an overlook area where you can view the entire park. The flowerbeds, bushes, and arboretum are immaculately cared for by the Highlands Ranch Metro District.

The Overlook Stream is a really neat feature, great for children who don't like splashing fountains but still want to get wet on a hot summer day. It is created with concrete and rocks to look like a beach leading down to a stream. Bring some buckets or recycle a few food tubs for water play. This feature is open daily from April through late October.

The Overlook Fountain has three water spouts and a rim where parents can sit while watching their children play. This feature is open daily from mid-April through late October (weather dependent, of course).

The Interactive Fountain is a large fountain area with multiple spouts that seem to dance. An amphitheater-like staircase leads to the Case Pavilion, center stage for performances, gatherings, or movies. The fountains are in operation from mid-May through mid-September from 10:00 AM–8:00 PM; however, they are usually off during events.

The playground is on the east end near the Overlook Stream and Fountain. There is a climber playset with slides, ropes, monkey bars, and more, a Geodome with ropes, a spring rider, a sit-and-spin, and something called a Kompan Supernova, which is so neat to play with if you know what you're doing. Check out this video by the manufacturer and impress your friends the next time you are at the park:

There are two shelters with tables, BBQs, and a nearby building with bathrooms and a drinking fountain — everything you need for a fun, water-filled day at the park!

As the sun began to set, we quickly found a spot on the large grassy field. The pavilion is in the best position at the bottom of the hill, making any place on the field a perfect viewing spot.

Throughout the park are trails that lead to sculptures. It's fun to use it as a contest to see how many you can find.

The Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument is off to the north, a beautiful memorial for those who served our country. At night it is illuminated brightly, honoring their sacrifices for all to see.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs are not allowed in Civic Green Park. Bikers must dismount when entering the park.
