Van Gogh Alive is no ordinary art exhibit. It's an immersive, multi-sensory experience that uses light, color, sound, and even scents to allow visitors to experience the art of Vincent Van Gogh in an entirely new way.

I love the works of Van Gogh, and I've been looking forward to seeing this exhibit for months. Although he was just 37 years old when he died, Vincent Van Gogh was a brilliant artist who created more than 2,000 works of art, most in his final years. Starry Night is perhaps his most famous, but his distinctive style is easily recognizable in all his pieces.

The experience begins with a timeline and details about Van Gogh's life to familiarize guests with several of the settings and locations featured in his art. Visitors should note that the original works of art are not on display. Rather, there are larger-than-life digital projections on every wall in the main rooms of the exhibit.

I am easily moved by beautiful art. As I sat on a bench, completely surrounded by Van Gogh's art, listening to classical music, and pondering some of the quotes from his journals that were also projected on the walls, I was moved to tears. Van Gogh suffered from mental illness and died tragically, but he left behind a legacy of beauty that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

While all ages are welcome, I think this is the perfect adults-only night out. My husband and I began our evening exploring some of the different shops at Stanley Marketplace, took our time experiencing the exhibit (we spent more than an hour in there), and finished with dinner at one of the restaurants before heading home. It was the most unique date we've had in a long time!

Tickets are now on sale!
Most adult tickets are $40-$55. Tickets are $35 at 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM every Tuesday through Friday and 6:30-7:00 PM every Sunday night. Tickets for youth (ages 5-18) and students with a student ID are $25. Children 4 and under are free but still require an admission ticket, which can be reserved online.

The exhibit is ADA-accessible and stroller-friendly. There's no recorded information about the artist or his works and the seating is very sparse so you should be prepared to stand most of the time.

Use the DCPA ticketing calendar to find the day, time, and price that work best for you.

The first of its kind, Van Gogh Alive has welcomed more than seven million visitors worldwide in over 66 cities on six continents since its inception in 2011. Unique to Denver, the DCPA engagement features a representation of Van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles” painting at the beginning of the exhibit and ends with the iconic “Sunflower selfie room.”
