Fall 2021 Blockbusters, Family Films, and Must-See Movies

The fall and holiday movie season is just around the corner, with quite a varied mix of superheroes, sequels, remakes, and kid-friendly films. Grab your friends and family and a BIG bucket of popcorn. Your Must-Watch list is about to get even longer!

NOTE: Some of the movies may be released on streaming services and in theaters at the same time. All release dates are subject to change.

NOW SHOWING

CODA (Drama | PG-13) This coming-of-age story is about Ruby, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) who is torn between pursuing her love of music and helping her family's fishing business. It was the hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is expected to be an Academy Awards contender.

Free Guy (Action/Comedy | PG-13) When a bank teller (Ryan Reynolds) discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, he decides to become the hero of his own story… one he rewrites himself.

Paw Patrol: The Movie (Animated Adventure | G) Paw Patrol fans won't want to miss this! Ryder and the pups are called to Adventure City to stop Mayor Humdinger from turning the bustling metropolis into a state of chaos. The voice cast includes some of Hollywood's most famous, including Kim Kardashian, Jimmy Kimmel, Tyler Perry, and many others.

The Protege (Action | R) Rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody (Samuel L. Jackson), Anna (Maggie Q) is the world's most skilled contract killer. However, when Moody is brutally killed, she vows revenge for the man who taught her everything she knows.

Respect (Biography | PG-13) Jennifer Hudson stars as legendary R&B singer Aretha Franklin. Christmas comes early this year!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Action | PG-13) Marvel Studios is bringing us a new superhero movie starring Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and many others.

SEPTEMBER 10

Queenpins (Comedy | R) Inspired by a true story, a bored and frustrated suburban homemaker, Connie (Kristen Bell) and her best pal JoJo (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), a vlogger with dreams, who turn a hobby into a $40 million dollar counterfeit coupon caper.

SEPTEMBER 24

Dear Evan Hansen (Drama | PG-13) Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner Ben Platt reprises his role as a socially awkward high schooler who — like all of us — is seeking acceptance and understanding. Also starring Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams.

OCTOBER 1

The Addams Family 2 (Animated Comedy | TBD) Everyone’s favorite spooky family is back! Morticia (Charlize Theron) and Gomez (Oscar Isaac) are distraught that their children are growing up, so they decide to hit the road for one last family vacation. What could possibly go wrong?

The Guilty (Drama | R) A demoted police detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) assigned to a call dispatch desk is conflicted when he receives an emergency phone call from a kidnapped woman. A remake of the highly-acclaimed Danish original, the cast also includes Ethan Hawke, Paul Dano, and Peter Sarsgaard.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (Animated Comedy | PG) The cast you've grown to love — including Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Selena Gomez — returns for the final chapter of the Hotel Transylvania series.

The Many Saints of Newark (Crime Drama | R) Fans of The Sopranos won't want to miss this prequel to the popular HBO TV series. Set in the '60s and '70s, it focuses on the early years of Tony Soprano. The lead role is played by Michael Gandolfini, following in his late father's footsteps.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (Sci-Fi Action | R) Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL's greatest and most complex characters. The film also stars Woody Harrelson in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady/Carnage.

OCTOBER 8

No Time to Die (Spy Thriller | PG-13) Daniel Craig returns for his fifth film as the dashing and charming Bond… James Bond. The 25th (!!!!) movie in the 007 franchise also stars Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, and a plethora of shaken martinis and beautiful women, I’m sure.

OCTOBER 15

The Last Duel (Drama | R) Jacque Le Gris (Adam Driver) is accused of raping a married woman, prompting her husband (Matt Damon) to declare a trail by combat in what was literally the last legal duel in 14th century France.

OCTOBER 22

Dune (Sci-Fi Adventure | PG-13) Based on Frank Herbert's science fiction novel, Timothée Chalamet stars as the son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy. Director Denis Villeneuve has already stated that he plans to make a sequel.

The French Dispatch (Comedy | R) A collection of stories from the final issue of the fictional The French Dispatch Magazine is brought to life by Wed Anderson and one of the most amazing casts ever brought together in one movie, including Benicio del Toro, Frances McDormand, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Liev Schreiber, Henry Winkler, and Anjelica Huston.

Ron's Gone Wrong (Animated Comedy | PG) Barney (voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer) is an awkward middle-schooler and Ron (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) is his new walking, talking, digitally connected device. Ron's malfunctions launch them on a journey to learn about true friendship.

OCTOBER 29

Last Night in Soho (Thriller | R) A young woman, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…

NOVEMBER 5

Clifford the Big Red Dog (Animated Comedy | PG) Based on the beloved cartoon, a young girl loves a tiny puppy so much, it makes him gigantic!

Eternals (Action/Adventure | PG-13) Marvel brings us another new superhero film, this one starring Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek about a race of immortal beings who shaped Earth's history. 

NOVEMBER 19

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Action/Comedy | PG-13) It's time to bring the '80s classic to a new generation with a blend of beloved cast members (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts) and well-known newcomers (Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, and Paul Rudd). When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

King Richard (Biopic | PG-13) Will Smith stars as Richard Williams, father and coach of tennis superstars Venus and Serena.

NOVEMBER 24

Encanto (Animated | PG) The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who lives hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous place called Encanto. Mirabel Madrigal is an ordinary 15-year-old who’s struggling to find her place in the family.

House of Gucci (Drama | R) What's in a name? If the name is "Gucci," you'll find decadence, betrayal, and revenge. The incredible cast includes Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek, Al Pacino, and Jeremy Irons.

DECEMBER

DECEMBER 10

West Side Story (Drama | PG-13) Adapted from the 1957 musical, West Side Story explores gang rivalries and the forbidden love of Tony (the best friend of the leader of the Jets) and Maria (the sister of the leader of the Sharks).

DECEMBER 17

Spider-Man: No Way Home (Superhero Action/Adventure | TBD) The long-anticipated movie is finally here! Spider-Man is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous.

DECEMBER 22

The King's Man (Action/Adventure | R) In the third installment of the Kingsman franchise, one man must race against time to stop the world's worst criminal masterminds who are working together to destroy millions. 

The Matrix Resurrections (Sci-Fi Action | TBD) Not much is known about the new installment of the popular trilogy, other than it stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Also, that my family will have tickets to opening night!

Sing 2 (Animated Family | PG) The ever-optimistic koala, Buster Moon, and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet. But first, they have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star — voiced by global music icon Bono — to join them.

DECEMBER 25

American Underdog (Sports Biopic | TBD) American Underdog tells the inspirational true story of Kurt Warner (Zachary Levi), who went from a stockboy at a grocery store to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback.
