Your magical summer starts at Douglas County Libraries! Pre-registration for all ages is now open for DCL's Summer Reading 2022, with the official kickoff at DCL locations countywide on Saturday, June 4. 

Register today at, then pick up your reading log and sign-up prizes at a kickoff celebration near you on June 4. There are plenty of opportunities to experience the magic all summer!

Outdoor Kickoff Parties

Celebrate with Kona Ice treats and snacks, fun arts and crafts, life-size games, prize-wheel activities, bubbles and sidewalk chalk, and guests from Science Matters, who will whip up magnificent science magic.

Fun Summer Reading Events

Douglas County Libraries locations are hosting a variety of dazzling summer events for kids, including:

  • Magic Hat Painting: Let your creativity soar when you create a magical rabbit using oil pastel and colored pencil.
  • Magical Animal Abilities: Join Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's education team to learn about some magical things animals can do and meet up to four different animals.
  • Science Magic: Tricks and Illusions: Experience the excitement of scientific illusions with a Presto-Change-O penny trick and vanishing water.
  • Yo-Ho-Ho Magic Pirate Show with Ann Lincoln: A one-of-a-kind performance featuring juggling, magic, comedy, and Ann's trained bird and bunny.

Days of Giveaways Prize Drawings

DCL is giving away 105 awesome prizes! When you register for Unlock the Magic, you’ll automatically be entered into the prize drawings on June 4-13 and July 11-15, with multiple winners drawn each day. There’s no purchase necessary, and registration is free. 

Friendly School Contest

Kids can help their schools earn a $500 prize just by signing up for Unlock the Magic — be sure to include your school name and your grade when registering. The elementary, middle, high, and other schools (e.g., charter, K-12) with the most sign-ups by July 31 will receive their prize in August, courtesy of the Douglas County Libraries Foundation.

Community Reading Goal

Log your reading minutes to make a difference — this summer’s community goal is 8.5 million minutes of reading. 

If the goal is met, the Douglas County Libraries Foundation will donate $1,000 to AllHealth Network, which works to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in our community through compassionate, integrated behavioral health services.

Summer Birthdays Are a SPLASH!

Hosting your child’s summer birthday party can be a breeze when you reserve a Birthday Celebrations package from Douglas County Libraries. 

Our customized party kits to go are perfect for kids ages 2-7! The self-contained kit includes themed décor, snacks, fun crafts and activities, goody bags, and other extras for your child and up to nine party guests. Make your at-home party extra fun by reserving an inflatable water slide (two size options available) for an additional fee, June through Labor Day.
