You don't have to buy an expensive plane ticket to experience the educational benefits of traveling. Sightseeing right here in our local community is a rewarding experience in itself. Douglas County is PACKED with opportunities to learn something new, from parks to museums, rec centers to one-of-a-kind restaurants.
Below are five fun travel-themed things to teach your kids this week.
1. A silly joke.
We think ewe wool like this fun travel joke:
Where do sheep go on vacation? The Baaa-hamas!
2. A new vocabulary word.
Do you ever get the urge to explore somewhere new? There's a name for that!
What is wanderlust? Wanderlust is a strong desire to travel.
3. A word puzzle.
To solve a rebus, consider not just the words but the placement, size, color, and quantity of everything within the box (and sometimes just outside the box!) when trying to decipher the puzzle.
4. A fun fact.
Have you ever time traveled? Well, if you've journeyed across the US, there's a chance you have!
If you travel across the United States, you may experience driving into a different time zone — and they aren't always where you expect them. Take the Colorado-Kansas border for example. While most of Kansas falls into Central Time, four counties along the Colorado border observe Mountain Time.
Because of its size, the continental United States comprises four different time zones.
On the contrary, though more extensive than the US by approximately 2% and large enough to span five time zones, China follows a single measure of time. You could take a road trip through China and not ever have to reset your clock!
5. Teach a personal discovery.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
What travel destinations are on your bucket list? According to a survey by Big 7 Travel in 2019, the top five aspirational global travel destinations are Bali (Indonesia), New Orleans (United States), Kerry (Ireland), Marrakech (Morocco), and Sydney (Australia).
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." –Lao Tzu
