🐰 Cool Craft for Easter

By Amy Romback April 1, 2023

Are you on the hunt for an egg-citing Easter craft? Look no further than salt dough Easter eggs! Not only is it a great project for kids, but the eggs will also last forever, making them the perfect gift or annual springtime decoration.

We recently gave this classic craft a fresh twist and had an egg-cellent time painting and creating our own eggs. Trust us, this simple yet entertaining activity will have you and your little ones cracking up for hours, and the end result will be egg-straordinary.

Gather your supplies and prepare to "hatch" some creativity!

What You Need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • ½ cup water
  • Large bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • An egg-shaped cookie cutter (or use a knife to create your own!)
  • A spatula
  • A straw
  • A baking sheet covered in parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • Acrylic paint (Make sure your kids' clothes are protected!)
  • Assorted sized paintbrushes
  • Twine, ribbon, or yarn

What You Do:

1.) Preheat the oven to 250˚F.

2.) Stir together flour, salt, and water until a dough forms. Knead the dough until smooth.

3.) Roll out the salt dough to about ¼-inch thick. Cut out egg shapes using a cookie cutter.

4.) Use a straw or skewer to make a hole at the top of the egg shape so you can hang them.

5.) Place the salt dough Easter eggs on the parchment/aluminum foil-covered baking sheets and bake for two hours.

6.) When the eggs are cooled, paint!

7.) After the paint dries, string twine, ribbon, or yarn through the holes and hang. We found a few sticks in the yard to make an Easter Tree and showcase our Salt Dough Easter Eggs.
