MAY

MAY 5: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Superhero Action | PG-13) Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them. This looks like the most emotional Guardians movie yet, and rumors warn that we will lose at least one of them for good.

MAY 12: Book Club: The Next Chapter (Comedy | PG-13) The first Book Club — starring screen legends Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen — was a hilarious movie about a group of friends experiencing sexual reawakenings after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. Just in time for Mother's Day, these lovely ladies take their book club on a girls' trip to Italy.

MAY 12: Love Again (Romance | PG-13) Based on the book by Sofie Cramer, a young woman tries to ease the pain of her fiancé's death by sending romantic texts to his old cell phone number and begins to form a connection with the man the number has been reassigned to.

MAY 19: Fast X (Action | PG-13) How many movies in a series are "too many"? I'm not sure, but this is the tenth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. It's rumored to be the last one, but it is in two (or possibly three) parts, so you don't have to say goodbye just yet.

MAY 26: About My Father (Comedy | PG-13) Sebastian (Sebastian Maniscalco) brings his immigrant father, Salvo (Robert De Niro), to a weekend get-together with his fiancée's super-rich and eccentric family. The gathering develops into a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.

MAY 26: The Little Mermaid (Fantasy | PG) Disney again transforms one of its classic movies into a live-action version. The underwater scenes are positively breathtaking and should be seen on the big screen, IMO. Pardon me if I sing along!

JUNE

JUNE 2: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) (Animated Superhero Action | PG) Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga in an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with other Spider-People (and maybe even one Spider-Pig) to take on the most powerful villain yet.

JUNE 9: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (Sci-Fi Adventure | TBD) Loosely based on the Beast Wars storyline and set in the '90s, Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer — the Maximals — to the existing battle between Autobots and Decepticons.

JUNE 16: The Blackening (Horror/Comedy | TBD) A group of Black friends reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. The film skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?

JUNE 16: Elemental (Animated Comedy | PG) Am I too old to get excited when Pixar releases another movie? NO! Ember, a fiery woman, and Wade, a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, are friends who live in a diverse city composed of fire, water, land, and air citizens.

JUNE 16: The Flash (Superhero Action/Adventure | PG-13) Setting the stage for future DCEU movies, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), AKA The Flash, travels back in time to save his mother and, in doing so, creates a parallel timeline. Ben Affleck returns as Batman for his final DC appearance, and Michael Keaton will return as his '80s Batman.

JUNE 23: Asteroid City (Comedy | PG-13) Director Wes Anderson, known for quirky movies like The French Dispatch and The Royal Tenanbaums, is back! The film is about a Junior Stargazer convention that is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events and is filled with just about all the stars in the Hollywood Universe, including Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Edward Norton, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, and so many more!

JUNE 23: No Hard Feelings (Comedy | R) On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college.

JUNE 30: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Action/Adventure | PG-13) Fans are excited to see Harrison Ford return as Indiana Jones in this long-awaited follow-up to 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This is the first film in the franchise not directed by Steven Spielberg.

JUNE 30: Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (Animated Comedy | PG) DreamWorks  Animation dives into the turbulent waters of high school with a  hilarious, heartfelt action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s part of a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea Krakens and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, is bigger than she ever dreamed.

JULY

JULY 7: Joy Ride (Comedy | TBD) Four girlfriends embark on a grand adventure to China in search of one of the women's birth mother. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging — and wild debauchery.

JULY 12: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Action/Thriller | TBD) Little is known about the seventh installment of the long-running series (the first released in 1996). Expect a lot of action and Tom Cruise performing his own stunts. If we keep seeing them, they'll keep making them.

JULY 21: Barbie (Comedy | TBD) Greta Gerwig co-wrote and directed this original story, which chronicles the life of Barbie (Margot Robbie) as she's expelled from Barbie Land and introduced to our world. The "first look" photos of Ryan Gosling as Ken got all the buzz last summer.

JULY 21: Oppenheimer (Biopic | TBD) Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer tells the story of the American scientist who designed and helped develop the atomic bomb. The film is full of big-name stars, including Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, John Hartnett, and Rami Malek.

JULY 28: Haunted Mansion (Comedy | PG-13) Inspired by the iconic Disney ride, this family comedy about a single mom who hires a psychic, a priest, a historian, and a tour guide to help exorcise her newly-purchased mansion features some of my favorite actors, including Rosario Dawson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito.

AUGUST

AUGUST 4: Harold and the Purple Crayon (Animated Fantasy | PG) Based on the 1955 classic by Crockett Johnson, a young boy named Harold embarks on a magical mission with the help of his purple crayon. I'm unsure how this short book could become a full-length feature, but it was one of my children's favorite stories.

AUGUST 4: The Meg 2: The Trench (Action | PG-13) Based on the 1999 novel by Steve Alten, the sequel to 2018's The Meg, this generation's larger and scarier version of Jaws, is sure to be a smash.

AUGUST 4: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (Animated Action/Adventure | TBD) After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

AUGUST 11: Gran Turismo (Action | TBD) Based on the true story of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

AUGUST 18: Blue Beetle (Superhero Action/Adventure | TBD) The DC Universe introduces audiences to Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a recent college graduate in search of his purpose when he discovers an alien beetle that gives him superpowered armor.

AUGUST 18: Strays (Comedy | R) Finally, a dog story just for grownups! This live-action movie about an abandoned dog that teams up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner features the voices of Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Josh Gad, Sofia Vergara, Isla Fisher, and more. It is sure to be laugh-out-loud funny!

AUGUST 25: White Bird (Drama | TBD) From the best-selling author of Wonder, the book that sparked a movement to “choose kind,” comes the inspirational next chapter. Julian (Bryce Gheisar) has struggled to belong ever since he was expelled from his former school for his treatment of Auggie Pullman. To transform his life, Julian’s grandmother (the incredible Helen Mirren) finally reveals to Julian her own story of courage from her youth in Nazi-occupied France.

SEPTEMBER

SEPTEMBER 8: My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (Comedy | TBD) The worldwide phenomenon is back with a brand-new adventure. Join the Portokalos family as they travel to a family reunion in Greece for a heartwarming and hilarious trip full of love, twists, and turns. Opa!

SEPTEMBER 8: Poor Things (Sci-Fi | R) Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

SEPTEMBER 15: A Haunting in Venice (Mystery | PG-13) Based on Hallowe'en Party, one of Agatha Christie's lesser-known novels, a retired Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) is reluctantly attending a seance when one of the other guests is murdered.

SEPTEMBER 29: The Creator (Sci-Fi | PG-13) Even after watching the trailer, I wasn't really clear on the plot of this action-adventure sci-fi thriller, but it appears to be a world engaged in a war between humans and AI. Might not be as "sci-fi" as we would hope!
