With summer break rapidly approaching, it's time to think about the question: What are your kids going to do all summer? You don't want them to sit around playing video games all day or listen to them complain about being bored all day. After the second week, this will drive you crazy!

It's Summer Camp Time!

Get them out of the house and moving, learning some skills, and making new friends.

For over ten years, Impact Taekwondo in Highlands Ranch has offered Camp Impact, a full-day program for ages 5-12, as well as a half-day Dragon/Ninja Camp for ages 4-6. Our highly-trained and qualified staff have as much fun as the campers do! The program includes Taekwondo lessons every day, but each week has a theme that helps to guide and inform the rest of the activities for the session.

Our camp philosophy stresses individual participation, teamwork, and engagement. We are not babysitting. We keep the campers engaged and moving.

In our area, we are truly blessed with the number of camps and activities that our kids can participate in. There are several things to consider when choosing a day camp since the wrong choice can lead to a disappointing summer for both you and your child.

Location

One of the first things to consider when choosing a day camp is the location. The camp should be convenient to your home or workplace. This makes drop-off and pick-up easier and less time-consuming for you and your child.

Additionally, it is essential to consider the surrounding area of the camp, such as the safety of the neighborhood and the availability of public transportation.

Activities

Think about what your child enjoys doing. Depending on their interests, you may want to look for a camp that offers sports, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, or academic enrichment programs.

Summer may also be a good time to introduce them to a new activity since there isn't a long-term commitment. Consider choosing a camp that offers activities your child will enjoy but will also challenge them to learn new skills and develop other talents. Look for a balance of activities within the daily schedule.

Staff

Staff is key. They are at the heart of any good camp. Not only do you want to ensure that the staff is experienced, well-trained, and qualified to work with children, but also that they care and will connect with your child.

Be sure the camp background checks and references for each staff member. Look for camps with a low camper-to-staff ratio, as this will ensure that your child receives individual attention and support when needed.

Safety

Your child's safety is of utmost importance when choosing a day camp. Make sure the center has appropriate safety measures in place, such as first aid kits, emergency procedures, and well-trained staff.

Additionally, the camp should have age-appropriate equipment and facilities regularly inspected for safety.

Cost

Day camp costs can vary greatly depending on the location, activities, and amenities offered. Set a budget before beginning your search, and look for camps that fit within your budget. Keep in mind that some camps may offer financial aid or scholarships for families who need assistance with the cost.

Duration and Schedule

Some camps offer only half-day options, while others may provide full-day or overnight camps. Consider your work schedule and your child's needs when choosing a camp with a schedule that works for you.

Additionally, you may want to consider whether the camp offers flexible scheduling options like early drop-off or late pick-up so that you can better plan your day. This may be especially important for parents who are employed full-time.

Camp Philosophy

A camp's philosophy is the underlying beliefs and values guiding the camp's programs, activities, and overall approach to working with children. A camp's philosophy can significantly impact your child's experience and development. It will determine the type of environment created, the activities offered, the staff members who are hired, and the camp's overall goals and objectives.

Some camps may have a philosophy focused on fostering independence and self-reliance in campers, while others may prioritize teamwork and collaboration. Some camps may emphasize outdoor adventure and exploration, while others may have a focus on academic enrichment or skill-building in a specific area, such as sports or the arts.

Look for a camp whose philosophy keeps your child engaged and busy.

Also, consider how conflict is resolved and whether the camp is open to different sorts of children. Inclusivity and diversity are important.

Reviews and Recommendations

Reviews and recommendations from other parents can be helpful when choosing a day camp for children. Ask friends, family members, and coworkers for recommendations, or search online for reviews from other parents. Pay attention to both positive and negative reviews to get a well-rounded understanding of the camp's strengths and weaknesses.

Choosing a day camp can be an intimidating and challenging process. Take the time to consider these factors carefully and we think you'll agree — Camp Impact checks all the boxes!

This could be your child's best. summer. EVER!
