Douglas County Libraries’ festive Forest of Stories is back at all seven library locations, offering wonder-filled entertainment for the whole family throughout the holiday season!
As holiday events fill up around Douglas County, you don’t have to worry about reservations or high ticket costs. This immersive exhibit of Christmas trees transformed into literary works of art is free and open during regular library operating hours through January 6, 2024. Plan your visit on your own schedule!
Forest of Stories is presented by the Douglas County Libraries Foundation and includes more than 150 trees inspired by beloved stories, from favorite children’s tales to classic literature, crime thrillers, horror, comedy, mysteries, larger-than-life characters, and more.
See timeless classics like Goodnight Moon, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, The Jungle Book, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to themes ranging from the indomitable Indiana Jones, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, mythology, and more!

“I just love this event!” said Elaine McCain, Chair of Douglas County Libraries Foundation, the event’s presenting sponsor. “Forest of Stories is a wonderful community event that is accessible to everyone — no tickets are required. Library customers of all ages can experience the joy of stories through amazing decorated trees set to sparkle for the holidays,” said McCain.
Come in! Wander through the libraries and wonder at the incredible tree trimmings, some of which include life-size characters, memorabilia, and artifacts, among other unique details. Take photos and celebrate your love of stories! Each location also highlights trees representing the individual library communities and DCL’s Archives and Local History.
