In June 2024, Gov. Jared Polis signed HB24-1055, a new bill that updates Colorado’s child passenger safety law. These updates reflect the latest research-based recommendations on car seat, booster seat and seat belt use for children. The updates, which became effective January 1, 2025, will ensure that laws keep pace with evolving best practices for car seat and booster seat use. If you have any questions on the updates to the law, please email carseatscolorado@gmail.com.
Car Seats Colorado emphasizes that car seats, booster seats and seat belts are developed to protect children based on their size, not their age. Even if your child looks big enough to move to the next size seat, be sure to follow all manufacturer recommendations on the car seat label. Last year in Colorado, 78% of car seats inspected by child passenger safety technicians were not being used correctly or were not installed properly. Car Seats Colorado supports more than 140 inspection stations across the state. Inspection stations offer assistance for parents and caregivers, and inspectors can check to make sure your child's car seat is the right size and is installed properly.
