Our Favorite Things... About Winter at Copper Mountain

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton, Macaroni KID Denver, and Macaroni KID Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Editor and Publisher February 2, 2026

There's nothing like a memorable staycation.

Even better? When that staycation is a car ride away.

My family loves an easy getaway full of family fun. Our favorite? Copper Mountain, of course!

We stayed at Copper Mountain Resort recently and loved every minute of it. Here's why!

Set it and forget it.

Park your car in the lots or the heated, underground garage at Copper Mountain Resort, and never get into it again until you are ready to pack up. How, you ask?

  • There are several lots at Copper Mountain that are about a 5 minute walk to the villages and lifts.
  • Parking is included in your stay at Copper Mountain Resort.
  • The Resort offers everything you'll need for your time in the mountains, from ski rentals to groceries to toiletries to apres ski treats.
  • The shuttles are the best around. Whether you want to visit The Barn or ski at the East Village, the convenient free shuttle will take you anywhere you need to go at Copper Mountain Resort.

No skis? No problem!

Rent your equipment onsite and save time and hassle.

  • Growing kids require growing equipment. Until our kids were finished growing, we didn't even consider their own skis and snowboards.
  • Speaking of, how many times have your kiddos switched from skis to snowboards?
  • Our vehicles are not equipped to get ski equipment up to the mountains.
  • Copper Mountain has equipment rentals right onsite, and makes it super easy to grab your skis and snowboards the night before (our preference), so you don't have to worry about it in the morning and miss out on precious hill time.

Messy, warm, happy. Loving every minute of our staycation at Copper!

The best way to enjoy the mountain.

Leaving your room or condo and being steps away to the chair lifts is by far my FAVORITE thing about staying at Copper Mountain, so when I had the opportunity to lodge my whole family in a three bedroom townhouse, I was quick to take it. Plus, there are SO many benefits to being able to pop back into your temporary abode during the day:

  • Let's face it, no one loves to walk around in ski boots, so a short walk to the lift is ideal
  • Grab a snack and/or drink with ease
  • No need for lockers (although they ARE available if needed!)
  • Take a break in the comfort of your own space
  • Kids can nap and get right back on the slopes (even the older ones!)
  • Easily take advantage of activities, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife when you stay at Copper

Copper Mountain Resort will keep you busy all day long in the winter!

There's more than skiing and snow boarding at Copper Mountain Resort (don't get us wrong, we love that, too!).

Scenic Gondola Rides!

Perfectly suited to those who don't ski or snowboard but want to see the top of the hill, the Gondola is one of my favorite things to do at Copper Mountain. Plus, it's often easier for families with smaller children to make their way up the mountain in the Gondola.

PRO TIP - Grab lunch and the best views ever at Aerie at the top of the Gondola ride. Highly recommend.

Green Acres Snow Play and Sledding Zone - FREE!

BYOS! Bring Your Own Sled (or Snowman supplies) and have a snow ball playing in the Copper Mountain fluff (see what I did there?) at the Green Acres Snow Play and Sledding Zone. Our condo came complete with sleds and supplies for this fun and free excursion... another bonus for staying onsite at Copper Mountain Resort.

PRO TIP - Fill out the free registration online before you head over, and you'll be good to go.

Free Tours

Learn all about Copper Mountain's history, wildlife, geography, and a few fun facts by taking a Free Tour! You can choose to Ski with a Ranger (requires lift ticket), take an On-Mountain Ambassador Tour (requires lift ticket), or experience the winter snow crunching beneath your feet with an Ambassador Snow Shoe Tour (requires snow shoes, rentals available).

PRO TIP - Make your reservation early and check the Activity Status online before you head over.

Ice Skating (and more!) at West Lake

Skating, broomball, or a game of hockey? All three! Game equipment is available at West Lake, free of charge, and you can rent skates onsite. Prefer to stay on dry land? Roast some marshmallows lakeside at the fire pit.

PRO TIP - Stop by Sugar Lips Mini Donuts for the best treat on the mountain.

Rocky Mountain Coaster

My family's favorite "extra" activity is over a mile long (second longest in North America) and boasts speeds up to 25 mph. Yes, please! The Rocky Mountain Coaster gives us speed, control over our own ride, and views that are only available on the Alpine rails. Not only can you relax and enjoy the quiet ride to the top, but you are in for a thrill on the descent, whipping around turns at top speeds if that's your jam. It is quite literally, the best of both worlds.

PRO TIP - One child (ages 3-8) can ride free with a paying adult!

Tubing Hill

Slide, spin, and send it at Copper Mountain’s tubing hill. This family-friendly activity gives your crew a whole new way to play in the snow! Whether you hit the hill before, during, or after your day on the slopes, our course ups the tubing game with banked turns that make it nearly impossible not to beam all the way down. Kick off those ski boots, grab a hot chocolate, sign your waiver, and we’ll be waiting with your ride.

PRO TIP - Try out different configurations with your family and friends. Our favorite was to hook up all together and fly down!

The Barn

The Woodward Copper Barn Copper Mountain Resort's action sports playground. Featuring multiple skate/scooter/bmx zones, indoor ParkSki™ and Burton ParkBoard™ training, springfloor, tumble track, five Olympic-grade flybed trampolines and one 12'x12' Super Trampoline, The Barn has everything you need to practice your moves and have tons of fun in every session. When the winter snow gets deep at Copper, come inside and enjoy an indoor session under the lights in the fully heated Woodward Copper Barn.

Dining

There are at least 20 places to grab a bite to eat at Copper Mountain Resort, and I have never had anything that is less than stellar there. Whether you are looking for a quick lunch, a snack for the kids, or a full blown dinner, Copper Mountain Resort has you covered. You know that we are always on the lookout for gluten free options for my daughter, and there is no shortage of goodies for her to enjoy as well...BONUS POINTS! Our faves are Sugar Lips Mini Donuts, where your minis are cooked to order, complete with fancy topping concoctions, Aerie, beautifully positioned at the top of the Gondola for the best views, and Downhill Duke's, located conveniently between the American Flyer and American Eagle, and is named after a Copper Mountain legend and avalanche rescue dog hopeful. It's also worth mentioning that they serve the best Cuban around... take my word for it!

You really can't go wrong at Copper Mountain Resort. No matter where you stay onsite, which runs you ski or snowboard, what tasty morsels you choose to eat at the many available dining options, or what activities you partake in while you're there, you are going to have a blast. It is truly one of our favorite places to staycation in all of Colorado.
