Performing Arts Academy Summer Theatre Camps

Performing Arts Academy offers 1-week full-day and 2-week half-day theater summer camps for elementary, middle, and high school age groups in the south Denver area.

Theater Summer Camps are action-packed and challenging weeks, full of learning, fun, and friends! Students will study acting, music, and dance as part of the rehearsal process. They will also learn technical elements such as lights, sound, set, costumes, props, and projections. Camps conclude with a fully-staged performance! 

All of PAA's programs are designed to build character, confidence, and self-esteem — both on and off the stage. Our focus is on the students, and our professional faculty and staff work hard to make sure every student has a great time! Your child will learn and grow, make great friends, and have a lot of fun while doing it!

Early Elementary (Grades K-2)

Filled with fun activities including theatre, crafts, snacks, and outdoor time (weather permitting), the emphasis is on learning, engagement, and social development through fun and playful exploration. The week concludes with a Shareformance where students can show what they learned during the week.

Swamped: The swamp is all a-buzz with party preparations galore! Lessons of friendship, tolerance, the courage to face the future, and more, abound in this mini-musical.

  • Shareformance: Friday, July 23 at 11:00 AM.

Elementary

These are action-packed and challenging weeks, full of learning, fun, and friends! Students will study acting, music, and dance as part of the rehearsal process, which also includes technical elements such as lights, sound, set, costumes, props, and projections. Students embark on a journey of putting on a fully-staged 30-minute musical. No previous experience is needed.


Frozen Jr. (Grades 4-9): A story of true love and acceptance between sisters. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. 

  • Auditions: Saturday, May 1 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: June 1-5 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Performances: Saturday, June 6 at 4:30 PM or 7:00 PM
  • Price: $375 per student

Seussical Kids (Grades 2-7): Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza. The powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphantly!

  • Auditions: Saturday, May 8 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: June 7-18 from 8:30 AM–12:30 PM or 1:00–5:00 PM
  • Performances: Friday, June 18 at 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM
  • Price: $490 per student

The Lion King Kids (Grades 3-6): The African savannah comes to life on the stage with Simba, Rafiki, and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.

  • Auditions: Friday, July 9 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: July 5-9 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Performances: Friday, July 9 at 4:30 PM or 6:00 PM
  • Price: $375 per student
Middle/High School

These are action-packed and challenging weeks, full of learning, fun, and friends! Students will study acting, music, and dance as part of the rehearsal process, which also includes technical elements such as lights, sound, set, costumes, props, and projections. Students embark on a journey of putting on a fully-staged 60-minute musical. No previous experience is needed.

Emma Jr. (Grades 7-12): Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives. Will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? 

  • Auditions: Saturday, May 15 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: June 7-12 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Performances: Friday, June 11 at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM
  • Price: $375 per student

Shrek the Musical (Grades 7-12): It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. 

  • Auditions: Saturday, May 8 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: June 14-25 from 8:30 AM–12:30 PM or 1:00–5:00 PM
  • Performances: Friday, June 25 at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM
  • Price: $490 per student

Tuck Everlasting The Musical (Grades 7-12): When Winnie learns of the magic behind the Tuck’s unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret. Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

  • Auditions: Saturday, June 12 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Dates: July 12-23 from 8:30 AM–12:30 PM or 1:00–5:00 PM
  • Performances: Friday, July 23 at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM
  • Price: $490 per student
Conservatory (Grades 9-12)

The Conservatory Theatre program is our top-level program, appropriate for serious, experienced high-school students who want to take their acting, singing, and dancing to the next level. 

The directors for PAA conservatory theatre programs are all current industry professionals with a vast amount of experience in their field bringing a higher degree of learning and technical application to performance. 

Through the PAA Conservatory Theatre program, students will gain a level of experience that will prepare them for college theatre programs and beyond.

Previous fully staged production theatre experience is required. The auditions are modeled after professional auditions with acting, music, and dance sections.  


Mamma Mia (Grades 9-12): ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!

  • Auditions: Saturday, April 10 from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
  • Dates: July 5-16 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Performances: Thursday, July 15 and Friday, July 16 at 6:30 PM
  • Price: $650 per student
Acting for the Screen (Grades 6-12)

In this week-long camp, students will work on mastering the more subtle, controlled, and natural expressions and gestures required for film and TV acting.

Using scenes from famous movies and TV series, students will learn how to approach acting with the confidence and precision required for more advanced material. We will touch on the business of acting in LA, auditioning for casting directors, best acting tips, how to quickly adapt to material and characters, typecasting, and more!
