Description
This hike goes over Raccoon Knob and Cherokee Mountain, focuses on interpreting the beautiful landscape. Participants will learn how to interpret the sedimentary layers and decode the past. Massive floods, deadly volcanic eruptions, and the flood plain of an ancient river containing trees are just some of the amazing geology.
Moderate: A moderate hike is between 1 and 3 miles and typically follows primitive trails with limited elevation gains and are suitable for most people in good physical condition. There may be some steep off-trail hiking.
Reservations include access to Cherokee Land for the hike. Please wear sunscreen, bring a water bottle, and come in proper hiking attire, including closed-toe shoes or boots. Long pants are recommended. Participants may bring camping stools or blankets for use during stopping points on the hike for historical discussions.
