Join this informative hike to explore the rich archeological history of Douglas County. Scientists at the Cherokee Ranch Institute have been excavating several sites. Visit the excavation site on Cherokee Mountain and examine an ancient quarry where the natives sculpted tools from local stone. Learn about what they have found and what they hope to find in the future.
Moderate Hike: Moderate 2.5 miles off trail and includes some steep off-trail hiking. This hike is suitable for most people in good physical condition.
All hikes require shoes that protect your feet; sandals or shoes that do not cover your feet are not permitted. Most hikes are in open meadows and exposed slopes; participants should wear sunscreen and consider a hat. We recommend a minimum of one liter of water and snacks for every two hours of hiking.
