Description
Giddy Up & Read is a "read to horses" program designed to help children with their reading skills, whether they are just learning to read, have anxiety surrounding reading, or have special needs that require extra help with reading. Each child is encouraged to bring one or two favorite books, but books will also be on hand.
Reading to animals helps children to gain confidence and practice their reading skills while comforting shelter animals. The program is designed to allow one child at a time to read to one of the horses, accompanied by two volunteers, for 30-45 minutes. Afterward, participants can give treats to the horses they read to and then write thank-you notes to the horses.
Sessions are 12:30–4:30 PM on the third Saturday of the month.
