Enjoy the beauty of Cherokee Ranch! This trek proceeds through game trails and rugged terrain. Visit the largest petrified woods in Colorado, climb to the highest point on this pristine land, and loop through some of the more remote and fascinating parts of the Ranch not available to public visitors.
Rating: Difficult – Sustained hiking off trail for over 4 miles (approx. 4 hours). This hike is for experienced hikers in good physical condition. Participants can expect rugged terrain, challenging conditions, and significant elevation changes.
Recommendations: Wear long pants and good hiking shoes or boots (sandals or shoes that do not cover your feet are not permitted). Consume a minimum of 1 liter of water for every two hours of hiking and a snack for any hike over two hours. Most hikes are in open meadows and exposed slopes; all participants should wear sunscreen and consider a hat.
