Description
This hike focuses on interpreting the beautiful landscape of Raccoon Knob and Cherokee Mountain. Participants will learn how to interpret the sedimentary layers and decode the past. Massive floods, deadly volcanic eruptions, and the floodplain of an ancient river containing trees are just some of the amazing geology.
Rating: Moderate – Climb Raccoon Knob and Cherokee Mountain (approx. 2.5 hours). This hike is suitable for most people in good physical condition.
Recommendations: Wear long pants and good hiking shoes or boots (sandals or shoes that do not cover your feet are not permitted). Consume a minimum of 1 liter of water for every two hours of hiking and a snack for any hike over two hours. Most hikes are in open meadows and exposed slopes; all participants should wear sunscreen and consider a hat.
