Notes regarding time
Rodeo #1:12:15-1:30 PM | Rodeo #2: 3:15-4:30 PMDescription
Developmental Pathways is excited to partner with Douglas County Fair and Rodeo to offer a free event to individuals with disabilities. Participants will work through a series of modified rodeo events, including:
- “bull riding” and “bareback bronc riding” on hand-rocked animals
- “steer roping” with dummy steers
- “steer wrestling” and “barrel racing” on giant stick horses
Each child participant will receive a cowboy hat and T-shirt. The children and their ProRodeo partners will have their pictures taken and exchange autographs while the announcer provides live-action commentary from the arena floor. As the children and their ProRodeo partners finish up, each pair will be introduced, and each participant will receive a trophy.
Note: Adults and older children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are welcome to participate, but the Exceptional Rodeo is traditionally focused more on elementary-aged youth because of the size and weight requirements of the equipment.
This special day will also offer:
- Sensory Friendly Tent for those who need a sensory break.
- Accessible Horse Drawn Wagon Rides from 12:00-4:00 PM.
- Therapeutic Mini horses will also be on-site.
