Safely Dispose of Unused or Expired Medicine and Protect Our Water and Environment!
Flushing or dumping prescription medication down a drain is not a good way to dispose of it. Minor amounts of medication can enter the environment, contaminate drinking water, and affect people and wildlife. Help protect Colorado’s most precious resources by taking your meds back to secure collection boxes!
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Such drugs can also contaminate water supplies if not disposed of correctly. That's why local police departments have joined the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take-Back Initiative. Drop off unused pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medicines and supplements, no questions asked, and get them out of your home.
The following items will not be accepted: needles, mercury thermometers, oxygen containers, liquid medicines, chemotherapy/radioactive substances, pressurized canisters, and illicit drugs.
